Hogwarts Legacy lets players become a student of Hogwarts and forge their own journey through the Wizarding World. Complete with unique wands, spells, and invitation letters, newly arriving students to Hogwarts will also get to choose which of the four Houses they will live in and compete for. Each house comes with a specific aesthetic, dorms of living spaces, unique side missions, and a House companion.
That means choosing between House Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherin, or Ravenclaw can have a large effect on a gamer's play-through, though a House alone does not dictate the wizard. Choosing a House can also come down to a player's personality preference for their witch or wizard. For example, if your new Hogwarts student is inclined towards bravery, and determination, has a tendency to act before thinking and enjoys some deep red hues, then House Gryffindor is probably the house for you -- here's how to join.
How To Choose Gryffindor
The first thing that the Sorting Hat will mutter to a student is "You come here with preferences and preconceptions - certain expectations." Then players will have to choose between two options, "I can't wait to start classes" or "I can't wait to explore." It is important for Hogwarts players to know that this first question has absolutely no bearing on your House selection. So, players can choose from either option with no effect on their House placement yet. Following that the Sorting Hat asks the end-all House-sorting question and this is where players have to spend extra care to choose the characteristic that translates to Gryffindor. In this case, make sure to choose "Daring" from the options of the Sorting Hat. Old-school fans probably already know what trait corresponds to each house, but for clarity here is the breakdown of what House each option from the Sorting Hat will get you:
Word Choice |
Hogwarts House |
---|---|
Daring |
Gryffindor |
Curiosity |
Ravenclaw |
Loyalty |
Hufflepuff |
Ambition |
Slytherin |
If a House is chosen that a player ends up disliking, they have one chance to change their House early in the game, or they can simply start a new game and replay up to that point. Also, each new Hogwarts character has multiple save slots and players can reload their game before the Sorting Ceremony if they wish to see different House options play out.
How The Sorting Hat Works
After getting through the introduction, players will be able to take their uniquely crafted, 5th-year Hogwarts student to the Sorting Ceremony in Hogwarts Great Hall. The ceremony is led by the current Hogwarts Headmaster, Professor Black with an unfamiliar Professor Weasley placing the Sorting Hat on a player's head. There are two main ways that a student can get sorted into one of the Houses. Players can take a short in-game quiz or, outside the game, players can link both their Harry Potter Fan Club and WB Games accounts for a more in-depth quiz experience. Either way, after arriving at the ceremony, a player's character will sit on the stool and must answer a few questions in order to become a member of Gryffindor House.
What Is The Difference?
Choosing a House in Hogwarts Legacy is a vital part of being a student but as a gamer, a player's House will not have an effect of the overall narrative of the game. The main benefits from each house are accessible to that House's common room, unique clothing cosmetics for that House, and a short side quest-line that is House specific. No matter what the House players choose, they can still experience the full scope of Hogwarts Legacy and are free to make decisions any way they choose. After all, the journey that plays out through the Wizarding World is up to you, whatever you may make of it.
