Hogwarts Legacy is out in the wild and running free. This game allows you to create your own character who will explore and adventure within the wizarding world. You’re free to run wild in a setting we’ve previously only seen through the eyes of Harry Potter and Newt Scamander. It’s exhilarating to forge your own path in a world that begs you to explore every inch of it. The world is alive and brimming with things to keep you occupied for many, many hours.

If you’re here, you’re likely looking for a bit of help with wand combat. Well, not to worry. The block/parry system is both simple and satisfying. If you manage to master it, you’ll be able to take on groups of foes well over your own level. Enemies over your level won’t break through your shield, so as long as your timing is on-point, you can block just about any attack from enemies your level and above.

Watch For The Golden Sigil

Hogwarts Legacy Block Parry 2

When you’re about to be hit with a blockable attack, a golden sigil will pop up above your head. You want to watch out for this, especially when facing off against other wizards. If you see a red sigil pop up above your head, it means the attack cannot be blocked or parried. In the case of the red sigil, you’ll need to dodge out of the way or break line of sight. When facing off against other wizards, if you’re outnumbered, it’s best to watch your own character instead of your enemies. Watching your own character will ensure that you always see the sigil above your head so you can react accordingly.

Cast Protego

Hogwarts Legacy Block Parry 1

When you see the golden sigil, you’ll want to hit Protego as quickly as possible. This is going to toss up a barrier around you. If you’re close to your target, they will occasionally get hit with damage from your block/parry. Timing is everything, because you can’t just hold up Protego indefinitely. While it acts as a shield for a moment, it isn’t like holding up a physical shield. If your timing is off, then you’re going to get hit with spells and lose health pretty quickly. It doesn’t take a lot of damage for your character to go down, so try to block/parry as much as possible.
