As Hogwarts Legacy has the player taking on the role of a 5th year just starting, you'll have many advanced classes to attend and extra teaching assignments from your teachers to help you catch up. Some of these additional assignments are required missions, while others offer fun side quests that reward players with new spells to use.
Professor Hecat is one of these professors who teaches Defense Against the Dark Arts and will prepare you for any enemy you may come up against. Completing her second assignment will reward players with the spell Expelliarmus.
How To Get Expelliarmus
This spell is a reward for finishing Professor Hecat's second assignment, which is available after players have finished Secrets Of The Restricted Section. Upon finishing this main mission, return to professor Hecat, and she will provide you with a new side quest to complete.
To complete this assignment, you will need to hurt five enemies using Incendio successfully and also successfully dodge ten attacks. This quest can be completed whenever you'd like, as progress will continue to track between different fights. While Incendio will damage your opponents and may require a few different enemies, the dodges can be farmed from a single enemy in the right environment. Outside the castle wall are many wild animals or creatures you can fight. Singling out one will allow you to perform ten dodges to quickly complete your assignment safely. After completing the assignment, return to the Defense Against the Dark arts class to be taught the spell, and you can use the nearby practice dummy to give your new spell a try. For those wanting to stay within Hogwarts, a few rounds at Crossed Wands will also be helpful in finishing this assignment, with some of the later rounds having multiple enemies to dodge attacks from and burn with Incendio.
How to Use Expelliarmus
Expelliarmus is a combat-focused spell, dealing damage to your target while also disarming them of their weapon. This spell is great to be used within combos or can break red barriers. While the main focus of this spell is to disarm your opponent, it will also always deal damage and is still a useful option if you're fighting an enemy without a weapon, such as wolves or spiders. This spell can be the second damage spell you can learn and has a much greater range than Incendio.
Expelliarmus also offers a slight knockback on unguarded enemies. You're unable to do anything with a downed weapon, but fighting an unarmed enemy is much easier. This spell is excellent when fighting other witches and wizards, as disarming their wand will leave them unable to attack but also unable to defend against any follow-up attacks you cast.
