Hogwarts Legacy is full of side content to spend your free time between classes. Some of these side quests are assignments from your professors helping you catch up to the other 5th-year students. These assignments help players see new aspects of the game, focusing on properly using spells, crafting potions, or using plants in combat.
To unlock Descendo, players will have to complete the assignment from Professor Onai. You will need to first complete Professor Sharp's first assignment to get Depulso, as it is required in order to complete Professor Onai's assignment. After receiving the owl from Professor Onai, the tasks can be found in your quest menu.
Complete Professor Onai's Assignment
To complete Professor Onai's Assignment, you'll need to cast Depulso on a levitated enemy and also collect a Troll Bogey. Obtaining a Troll Bogey can be done the easy way by purchasing it or through the more difficult way, which is by defeating a troll. J. Pippins Potions sells Troll Bogies for 100 Galleons a piece, and only one needs to be purchased for this quest. Should you want to defeat a troll, they can often be found at Goblin camps or in caves in the world. For those who have access to the Dark Arts Arena, you'll also fight multiple trolls in the later rounds.
Next, you'll need to cast Depulso on a levitated enemy. Find a random enemy in the open world, and cast Levioso on them. This will levitate them for a short time, allowing you to cast Depulso to throw them much further than if they were on the ground while also dealing a bit of impact damage on the enemy. Depulso is a decently powerful spell but is most effective when used on enemies currently in the air, such as those being levitated; this quest helps demonstrate that to players and lets them see the damage and effects themselves. After completing both tasks, return to Professor Onai's classroom during the day and attend Divination class.
How To Use Descendo
Descendo is a strong spell that will slam your enemies into the ground, whether they are standing or in the air. While standing, enemies are still slammed down, this doesn't deal much damage and only serves as a short-term stun. While there are many more effective spells for stuns that will also leave enemies in the air to be juggled, it's best to leave Descendo for levitating or airborne enemies.
Descendo pairs incredibly well with Levioso or Accio, as both spells will leave your enemy briefly levitating. Hitting a levitating enemy will juggle them for a short time before the levitation spell wears off and they drop to the ground. End your combos on a levitating enemy with Descendo to slam them into the ground and deal a large amount of damage, usually finishing off weakened enemies.
