The Imperius Curse is the second of the three curses you are able to learn in Hogwarts Legacy. When Imperio is cast at an enemy, it will allow you to control their mind and have them fight for you for a short period of time.

Learning the unforgivable curses will not be taken well by your fellow students, as you saw when Ominis witnessed you learning Crucio from Sebastian. But the impact of learning this next curse will be much more significant this time around. This guide will show you how to learn Imperio, and the choices that will follow.

Entering The Feldcroft Catacomb

Before you can learn Imperio, you’ll need to first complete the first and second of the Keepers’ trials, and learn Crucio from Sebastian in the Scriptorium. After doing so, and learning more about Sebastian's motives behind exploring dark magic, you’ll unlock the quest In The Shadow Of Time.

The quest starts with you meeting Sebastian near the Feldcroft Catacomb entrance in search of an ancient artifact that can supposedly reverse the effects of curses. After heading into the catacomb, you’ll face some spiders in the first room you find. After defeating them, cast Wingardium Leviosa to move the box, so you can reach the area above you. This path will lead to a chest. Then head back down and move into the next area.

Central Tomb

In the next area, there will be a path blocked by a broken door that can be opened using Accio or Depulso. Head through the doors to find a grassy area and defeat the spiders. Grab the chests and head back the way you came. Follow the second path to find a large, circular tomb.

Start by heading down the stairs to the center of the room and read the note left on the altar. After doing so, speak to Sebastian. You’ll need to figure out the secret behind the bone barricades in order to move forward. To do so, you’ll need to find three sets of human bones needed to unlock the door. Before you go chasing them down, you’ll want to get the treasure adjacent to this room.

Devil’s Snare Puzzle

To reach the treasure, destroy the rubble on the north side of the Central Tomb. You’ll find that the next room is covered in Devil’s Snare and there is no way to get to the door on the other side. Start by dropping down and casting Lumos near the Devil’s Snare to get it to recede. Next, cast Confringo on the newly exposed braziers to light them and keep the Devil’s Snare at bay.

Now you can cast Accio on the small tombs surrounding this room to acquire the treasure and bones hidden within them. Once you have opened them all, head back to the top where you entered and cast Accio on each set of bones to build a bridge leading you to the door on the other side of the room. Continue down this path to get the remaining treasure and open a gate that leads back to the Central Tomb.

Central Tomb Solution

Now that you have collected all the treasure, you’ll want to gather the three sets of bones in the Central Tomb to open the bone-barricaded door. On the east side of the room, you’ll find another door you can open with Accio or Depulso. On the other side is one set of bones.

Next, you’ll need to open the smaller tombs on the bottom floor to find the next set of bones. The final set will be the bones on top of the altar where you found the note. Cast Accio on all three sets of bones and bring them to the door to open the path ahead.

Learning Imperio

Learning Imperio in Feldcroft Catacomb

After you arrive in the next room, Sebastian will give you the option to learn Imperio since he believes it may be helpful for you in this tomb and beyond. You can choose to learn it now, or if you aren’t ready, you can always learn it from him later in the Undercroft.

After making your decision, you’ll enter a battle with spiders. After defeating the spiders, burn the webs to reveal a blocked path and some minor treasure. Since you can’t move forward this way, you’ll have the option to head through the north or south doorways in this room. Head north first and make your way down to a large spider battle.

After defeating the spiders, you’ll find a small destructible wall on the northeast side of the room. Use Depulso to go through, and you’ll find a large chest. Burn the spiderwebs on the north side of the room, and you’ll find some gold and positions. And finally, you’ll find some small chests through the door on the west side of this room.

Runic Puzzle Room

Head back to the room where you learned Imperio, and you’ll find another path on the south side of the room. Cast Depulso to push the door open and reveal another room with a bone barricade door. Surrounding this room are runes inscribed on the walls below some switches you can pull with Accio.

There are also four stone doors, each with a different combination of two runes on them. To solve the puzzle, you’ll need to pull the two switches that correspond with the runes on each door. Open all four doors to find the two sets of bones, and the third set will be positioned right by the bone barricade. Gather all three to open the door and continue forward.

The Artifact Room

In the next room, you’ll fight a bunch of spiders. After defeating them, burn the webs on the far side of the room to discover another note and the artifact you’ve been looking for. The note mentions the danger of taking the artifact and suggests that whoever finds it should leave it where it is. Sebastian, of course, does not want to listen and will take the artifact regardless of what you say.

As you go to leave the room, you’ll find that Ominis has been following you and is prepared to stop you from taking the artifact. Before Sebastian can do anything rash, you’ll get a moment to speak to Ominis first. In this conversation, you will need to make a decision on how to move forward. You can either convince Ominis to trust that Sebastian will make the right choices on his own, or convince Ominis that the only way is to absolve him of responsibility to do the right thing and save his friendship, by casting Imperio on him and force him to move out of the way. Regardless of which choice you make, the outcome will be the same. But casting Imperio on him certainly feels like the darkest decision you can make in the game thus far.

The Consequences Of Our Actions

Sebastian casts Imperio in Feldcroft

After deciding which path you’ll take with Ominis, you’ll leave the catacomb and make your way back to Feldcroft. As you approach the town, you’ll see it is in flames and being attacked by Ranrok loyalists. You and Sebastian rush in to help his uncle and sister Anne.

After defeating most of the enemies, one goblin just outside the battlefield will approach Anne and try to kill her. Sebastian sees this at the last minute and casts Imperio on the goblin and forces him to kill himself in front of her. Naturally, Anne is mortified, and Sebastian’s uncle cannot forgive Sebastian’s choice to use dark magic, regardless of the circumstance. After speaking with him, he warns you that if he catches either of you using it again, he’ll report it to the headmaster and get you expelled. Finally, meet Sebastian in the Undercroft to tell him what happened and complete the quest.
