Hogwarts Legacy gives players an enormous amount of freedom. You can play however you like, whether that means you follow the moral high ground or you decide to follow the path of dark witches and wizards; the choices are yours to make.
One way that you can make your character follow the dark wizard path is if you decide to have them learn the Unforgivable Curses from Sebastian Sallow during your playthrough. These curses may seem like every other spell, but they have a lot of dark history behind them.
What Are Unforgivable Curses
There are three Unforgivable Curses in the game. These curses are Crucio, which causes the target an inhumane amount of pain; Imperio, which allows you to temporarily turn an enemy into an ally; and Avada Kedavra, which instantly kills a target. In order to unlock these curses, you must play through Sebastian Sallow's quest line. In it, he is desperately searching for a way to cure his sister of a curse. He is willing to go to great lengths to save his sister, meaning he is ready to use these curses, even if they are unforgivable. Here are the quests that unlock each curse:
- Crucio: "In The Shadow of the Study"
- Imperio: "In The Shadow of Time"
- Avada Kedavra: "In The Shadow of the Relic"
Unlike all other spells in the game, learning these three is optional. Sebastian will ask you if you want him to teach you them, and you can willingly say no. However, many players fear that they may never get that opportunity again. That is not the case. After the game's conclusion, you can still learn each curse if you take the proper steps.
How To Learn Them After The Game
If you want to wait to learn the Unforgivable Curses, you can. During Sebastian's quest, "In The Shadow of the Relic," he will use the Unforgivable Curse, Avada Kedavra, on his uncle. This leaves Ominis and Anne trying to decide what to do with Sebastian. If you tell them to turn him in, he will never be seen again. However, if you tell them he has learned his lesson, he will continue to be around Hogwarts.
If Sebastian stays around Hogwarts, you are free to visit him in the Undercroft anytime after you have completed the storyline. Here, you can ask if he is still willing to teach you the curses. While he is shocked you want to learn them after everything that has happened, he agrees. This would allow you to get the three curses even if you asked him not to teach you them during his quest line.
