The Dread Comet is one of the tougher Notorious Marks in Final Fantasy 16, so don't let that Chocobo charm fool you. From flying talons and raging beaks to raining havoc down on Clive with massive meteor attacks, The Dread Comet dishes out some serious damage.

Before the fight even begins, it's worth checking Clive's ability load-out and customizing it for an enemy that can't be staggered. Focus on pure damage and speed to get the most out of your Eikons, and be prepared for plenty of precision dodging ahead.

Where To Find Dread Comet

Look for The Sickle area in The Dhalmekian Republic, which is pretty much smack dab in the center of four Obelisk options (The Jaw, Dravozd, The Dalimil Inn, and Kretov). The quickest route is probably Dravozd, where players can head south from the Obelisk while trekking east across The Fields of Corava. Take a left as Clive enters The Sickle to find the beautifully-feathered mark ready and waiting for a fight.

How To Defeat Dread Comet

Final Fantasy 16 - Dread Comet Meteor Ability

The first half of the fight is no real trouble. The physical attacks are a combination of Flying Kicks and Pecks, both of which are close-range and easy to dodge. Dodge to the side during either one to dish out some damage on the Chocobo's side or back. It's the meteors that will get you, of course, hence the name.

The Dread Comet starts with Chocobo Meteor, which is just one comet and the resulting shockwave. Dodging through the shockwaves is the way. As the mark takes more damage, this will increase to three projectiles. Clive can take some serious damage in quick succession at this point, so it's time to shift to a more defensive position during the meteor attacks. After each third one, take advantage of the reprieve to get in some more damage.

The final attack, Chocobo Meteorain, is going to be the real killer. The fight becomes a fiery cascade of meteors, and the shockwaves are the real problem. The best bet here is to unleash projectile attacks (magic and Eikonic) in between dodges while giving most of your focus to watching your feet.

Rewards For Defeating Dread Comet

This fight wins Clive several rewards:

  • 13,000 Gil
  • 39 Renown
  • 5300 Experience
  • 90 Ability Points
  • 1 Comet Feather.

The Comet Feather is one of the three items required to craft the Ouroboros Belt, which is the best belt in the game. It would be even better if it gave Clive the Chocobo Meteorain ability, but we'll take what we can get.
