Poppy Sweeting is a kind-hearted student you will meet during Professor Howin's first beast class, and she will let you fall in love with the beast taming, also thanks to Gerald, a fluffy Puffskein that you will have to scratch and feed.
She will also introduce you to one of the most regal creatures of the wizarding world, Highwing, her Hippogriff friend. Poppy has a sad personal history with whom she wants to cut ties, and you will be an invaluable friend for her throughout the year at Hogwarts and the quest that you will live together.
Fire And Vice
Fire and Vice is part of the main quest and is the starting point of your relationship with your Hufflepuff friend.
To succeed in this first stage of Poppy's questline, here are some simple steps that you will have to follow:
- Meet Poppy in the northern part of the Forbidden Forest, where she will reveal to you the existence of Horntail Hall, an illegal fight arena owned by the poachers where magical beasts are forced to fight each other.
- Reach Horntail Hall's entrance following a predetermined route. You will have to face several poachers, and you can deal with them in two ways: a stealthy way using the disillusionment enchantment and defeating them silently with Petrificus Totalus, or fighting them openly with your magical arsenal.
- Once inside the tent that concealed the arena in plain sight, you will have to reach the bottom part of the area where you can see two dragons fighting each other. A stealth approach here is strongly advised.
- Open the small cage where a blue dragon egg lies using your Level 1 Alohomora and pick it up.
- Arrived in the arena, you will have to face some poachers before witnessing a thrilling cutscene where you and Poppy will save from its prison a Hebridian Black Dragon, that will fly away unaware of leaving her puppy behind.
A Dragon Debrief
This dialogue-driven short quest is linked to the previous one, and all you will have to do is to meet Poppy at The Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade, right next to the fireplace. She will expose her theory regarding a connection between Rookwood's Poachers and Ranrok's Loyalists. She also plans to get on the trail of the dragon that you set free during Fire and Vice.
Poached Egg
Poached Egg is an exciting and heart-warming quest in which you will find your dragon friend.
All you have to do to rejoin her and give her egg back is to follow these simple steps:
- Meet Poppy in Hogsmeade again. This time she will be waiting for you next to a tree in the middle of the town. You will automatically arrive at your destination after a short dialogue.
- Use Reparo on the debris to put the bridge back together and keep following the predetermined route.
- Move from cover to cover to avoid getting burned alive from the dragon's breath.
- Use Reparo again to fix another bridge, and put the egg in its nest.
- Enjoy an amusing cutscene where the dragon will fly away with her egg leaving you and Poppy scared, excited, and above all, alive.
The Poacher's House Call
To start this quest, you must meet Poppy next to the Belltower Wing. Your bravery and kind heart came at a high price since Poppy got identified by the poachers, which, thirsty for revenge, stole the precious journals of her gran and got on the track of some rare and innocent creatures, the Snidgets. The second narrative arc of Poppy's relationship questline will turn around this event. Regardless of your choice in the dialogue of this quest, you will have the same outcome, and Poppy will be willing to encounter the centaurs.
Surprise Meeting
Surprise Meeting is another short quest that is cutscene-driven. You will have to meet Poppy in the Forbidden Forest and make acquaintance with the Centaurs.
They seem hostile in the first place, but Dorran, one of their leaders, is willing to help you.
The Centaur And The Stone
The Centaur And The Stone is one of the most amusing and tender side quests and involves your beloved Mooncalves. But since this is a long one, it is needed to shed light on its steps:
- Firstly, you should go in the vicinity of the entrance of the Irondale Cave to find the Moonstone, according to Dorran's instructions.
- In the first short puzzle, you will have to cast Accio on the handles of the pillar to reveal the moth stand, and, as usual, you must cast the Lumos spell to lure the moths and bring them to their destination
- Subsequently, you will have to solve a similar puzzle that will feature certain moth stands, which are provided with wings. You must cast Depulso to let the stands spin and activate their elevator-like function.
- After defeating the Dugbogs that are threatening you in the very next room after the puzzle sections, you will have to dive into the water, and you will emerge in the location where the Moonstone is.
- Destroy the obstacles with any spell that deals damage and collect the Moonstone.
- After placing the Moonstone in the socket carved into the henge, you will have the chance to witness the rare Mooncalf Dance in an amusing cutscene that will grant you precious information.
- Upon retrieving the Moonstone, you will have a short dialogue with Poppy that will end the quest.
It's In The Stars
In this short meeting, you will have to speak with Poppy and Dorran in the Forbidden Forest. Dorran will reveal to you that everything that led to your first encounter was already divined by himself, and he will also foresee the exact location where you can find the Snidgets.
A Bird In The Hand
A Bird In The Hand is the worthy conclusion of Poppy's relationship questline, and you will have to follow some specific passages to succeed in saving the Snidgets:
- Initially, you will have to meet Poppy near Brucborrow and reach Dorran, which will lead to the entrance of the den.
- You will have to solve a puzzle that involves pillars and moonlight. Using Accio on the two pillars, you will have to light the very same symbols that are in prominence on the stone. This action will reveal the entrance to The Gilded Perch, where the Snidgets' nest is.
- After opening your path through several objects you will have to pick up two cubes on which, based on the symbol shown, you will have to cast the corresponding spells. You will have to place the cubes on their respective spots with Wingardium Leviosa and cast Incendio on one and Glacius on the other one.
- Upon completing this puzzle, you will have to defeat a group of Poachers in order to safely unlock the door that will lead you to the Snidgets.
Poppy Blooms
This quest takes place after finishing the main story and is just a cheerful wrap-up and meeting in the Great Hall, where Poppy will thank you for having been such a good friend and classmate.
