In Hogwarts Legacy, Sebastian Sallow and his unique quest line make up some of the best storytelling in the game. Getting to know Sebastian and his family combined with his compelling story makes him one of the best companions in the game. On his search to save his cursed sister, Sebastian goes on a tear through the magical world looking for a solution. After asking the player to meet up with him, it's soon revealed that he has found the remnants of an ancient relic that uses dark magic and intends on finding it and using it to cure his sister.
This is how the quest "In the Shadow of Time" starts and once players talk to Sebastian and follow him into the catacombs, the road ahead is pretty treacherous. Spiders, skeleton puzzles, and hidden passages are all in plenty during the quest. So stock up on potions, plants, and check out our guide on how to make it through unscathed.
In The Shadow Of Time Part 1
Once inside the catacomb, players will notice lots of spider webs. Be sure to keep an eye out for hidden passageways and use fire spells to clear the webs that can be cleared to find hidden nuggets in the catacombs. After heading through the first few rooms, players will find the first skeleton puzzle. This is the giant creepy door with skeleton bones all around it, but it's locked. Players might also notice that the surrounding room is filled with crypt-looking cabinets that have large door-knockers on the front. Open them by using Accio. Once you find a pile of bones, cast Accio then hold the cast button for Wingardium Leviosa, after that you'll drag the bones with you will while moving.
Start with the first set of bones, which is lying in the center on the table. Drag the bones towards the door where Sebastian is waiting and let go of the skeletons in close proximity to the door. The bones will "stick" to the door, indicating one-third of the puzzle's completion. The second set of bones can be found by casting Accio on the door-knocker-like crypt cabinets that surround the room. Find the skeletons in one of those crypts and drag it over to the door like the first set. The third set of skeleton bones can be found by casting Depulso on a breakable stone door just east of the puzzle door. Blow through the door, and you'll find the third set of bones in another cabinet crypt. Drag them all the way back to the door where Sebastian is.
In The Shadow Of Time Part 2
In the next sequence, players have their chance to learn Imperius from Sebastian and can choose whether to learn the unforgivable curse or not. After that is another skeleton puzzle door in the following room. To open this puzzle however, players will need to explore the two drawings on a wall. The drawings correspond to their handles that players will cast Accio on to pull open. To expose the skeletons, use Accio to pull on the two door-knocker handles that match the ones on the puzzle door. Head through the door and a big spider battle will ensue.
Defeat the arachnids and continue through the catacomb until you and Sebastian reach the relic. It's here that players are given another choice: leave the relic or take it. Despite your choice, the events will lead to a showdown between Ominis and Sebastian with the former declaring the relic to be too dangerous. After Ominis departs, you and Sebastian will have to make some potentially ominous decisions that depend on the players conversational responses (no spoilers).
In The Shadow Of Time Part 3
After getting out of the catacombs, you and Sebastian head to Feldcroft to see his sister, Anne. However, once the duo approaches, it becomes clear that Ranrock's crew of baddies is attacking the innocent people of Feldcroft. Players will face a pretty big battle of wizards and goblins and having health potions and magical plants is ideal for the fight.
Dispose of enough enemies and a cut-scene will see Sebastian use his newly-learned, unforgivable curse, Imperio, on an enemy that was charging his defenseless sister. You really can't blame him in the moment. But perhaps choosing another offensive spell would be ideal because his choice ultimately dooms Sebastian and his family. Continue on with the rest of the cut-scene and the quest will be complete.
