The Hunt Board quests in Final Fantasy 16 offer less guidance and clearly marked objectives than the main story quests and the side quests, and navigating the dark corridors of Lostwing to find the Holy Trumpitour is a great example. This quick guide is everything you need to find and defeat the illusive man in black!
It's important to note ahead of time that Clive must complete a couple of side quests in order to access this Notorious Mark. These quests are called For Great Justice and For Great Justice II, both initiated by Quinten in Lostwing. If these quests aren't completed yet, start there. If they are, let's find that mark.

Where To Find The Man In Black
Lostwing is in The Holy Empire of Sanbreque, and the first step is going to be fast-traveling over to the Obelisk in Lostwing (Northeast of The Hideaway). It's a winding road through a few dark corridors to find this boss. Start by running east along the pier, take a left at the first fork, and take a right as soon as you enter the underground area to access the Cellar Passage. Sprint through the dark as the path rises to a doorway that will take Clive back outside. A man in black with a massive cannon will be there, awaiting a fight.
How To Defeat The Man In Black
Luckily, this is a fight players will already know their way around. Cannoneers have a relatively predictable move-set, though they can do high damage with their slow-but-heavy attacks. Speed is something to keep in mind during regular attacks, as there is some delay before an attack actually lands. Take your time on dodges and work out the timing, and keep in mind many of the regular attacks are the same as previous Cannoneer enemies.
Special attacks to watch out for are the flamethrower (with wide area of effect), a lunging attack, and a Rocketeer move. Let's go through each one:
- For the flamethrower, the best tactic is to simply dodge backward and wait it out. Simple as that.
- The lunging attack comes in sets of three, and each area of impact will burst into additional crystals of damage in front of the cannon. The best move here is to dodge left or right as opposed to backward and repeat the process for all three lunges.
- The last move is the trickiest. Sometimes the Holy Trumpitour rides the cannon for a rush attack, which hits hard and hits fast. Dodging isn't always enough, as the boss stubbornly repeats the process after a miss in most cases. A good tactic here is to use an ability that interrupts the attack, such as the Titanic Block. This works because it triggers an impact, which grants Clive a reprieve from repeat performances.
Rewards For Defeating The Man In Black
Once defeated, the Holy Trumpitour will reward players with several drops:
- 9,800 Gil
- 20 Renown
- 1 Scarletite
- 1 Meteorite
All in all, not bad for a day's work.
