Karmic Dice is one such setting that is a toggle-able option in Baldur's Gate 3 that can be turned on or off at any point in your playthrough.

What Do Karmic Dice Do?

Karmic Dice makes it so that, on average, your dice rolls succeed as many times as they fail. This means that if you've rolled Natural 1s two times in a row, there is a significantly lower chance of you rolling another Natural 1 again. In this case, the game will try to tilt the RNG in your favor and give you higher rolls on your next tries.

On the flip side, this also means that getting consistently high scores on dice rolls like 18s or 17s is not going to happen. Why? Because Karmic Dice will make sure that the balance is maintained and force you to get worse rolls to balance out your earlier high rolls.

The purpose of Karmic Dice is to give players a 'fair' experience and eliminate abysmally bad runs and insanely lucky rolls time and time again. RNG is not true-RNG with this setting turned on but an imitation of it.

Should You Turn Off Karmic Dice

There are two types of players playing Baldur's Gate 3. The first type of players are the ones who want to experience the game as it is, respecting the decisions of the dice and going with the flow. These players will appreciate having Karmic Dice turned on, as it will make this game a good mix of good and bad rolls.

The second type of players—which are frankly in the majority—are those who are going to save scum every chance they get. Quicksaving and reloading on every bad roll in order to get a high dice roll to get favorable outcomes on every instance. Karmic Dice should be turned off if you're planning to save scum, as this setting makes it impossible for this type of playthrough to work.
