Talking to Mattis in Baldur's Gate 3

There are only two ways to get a shovel in Baldur's Gate 3; by purchasing it from a merchant or finding it in the world. We recommend buying it since that way will be much quicker, and it's not costly.

There are a few merchants who sell a shovel, but one shop where you are guaranteed to find one is Mattis. You can find this boy at Druid Grove. Once you find him, talk to him and grab a shovel from his inventory.

If you don't want to buy the shovel from Mattis, you can try your luck at finding it in the world. There are a few places you can look for it, but we will go over two where players have reportedly always found it.

The first place is Overgrown Ruins, where you will have to kill a few bandits. After that, you will find the shovel at the entrance to the ruins. The second place is Emerald Grove grave, at around x202, y387. You will find a buried shovel in a grave.
