Spellcasters in Baldur’s Gate 3 all have some sort of limitation on how many spells they can cast between short and long rests. It is a staple mechanic of the Dungeons & Dragons ruleset to limit spellcasters in order to make the game feel somewhat balanced.

However, like everything in D&D, there is a way around the limitation. Enter: Ritual spells. These are free spells that don’t consume a spell slot when they’re cast. Ritual spells can be obtained by any class willing to commit to getting the feat, Ritual Caster, at level 4 — or learning them naturally through level up.

All Ritual Spells In Baldur's Gate 3

There are nine ritual spells players can obtain.

  1. Longstrider. Increases the movement speed of the unit it is cast on by 3m (most classes have a base movement speed of 9m). Lasts until Long Rest.
  2. Enhance Leap. Triple the jumping distance. Consumes one Action.
  3. Disguise Self. Transform into any race and any gender. 18 possible variations available. Lasts until Long Rest.
  4. Find Familiar. Summon one of eight possible familiars. Each familiar has a different specialty.
  5. Speak with Animals. Allows the caster to converse with animals of all types. Useful for exploration and getting clues for quests. Lasts until Long Rest.
  6. Speak with Dead. Revive a dead body and ask it five questions.
  7. Feather Fall. You and your allies gain immunity to fall damage. Lasts 10 turns.
  8. Detect Thoughts. Read the mind of creatures while talking to them. Lasts until Long Rest.
  9. Silence. Silence an area in a dome selected by the caster. No sound enters or leaves. Lasts 100 turns.

These spells can either be chosen during level ups by Wizard, Druid, Cleric, Sorcerer, and Bard — or any class can choose to obtain the Ritual Caster feat to get them as well.

Ritual Caster Feat Requirements

There are two requirements to obtain the Ritual Caster feat, which will grant you the ability to cast ritual spells.

  1. INT (Intelligence) or WIS (Wisdom) higher than 13.
  2. Level 4. Any class at level four will be able to acquire this feat (provided they meet the above requirement).

Use Disguise Self to change your appearance before casting Speak with Dead on an NPC you killed. The killed NPC will not recognize that you’re the killer, allowing you to get useful information from them.

You can only get two ritual spells by selecting the Ritual Caster feat. Choose wisely, as there is no option to reset your choice without committing to a complete respec of your character.

Three out of the six ritual spells last until Long Rest, which means they only need to be cast once every day. For this reason, spells like Longstrider, Disguise Self, and Speak with Animals are the best choices to get as ritual spells for your characters as early as possible.
