Quests are a staple in RPGs, and they serve many uses other than just progressing the main story. Some quests will allow you to set in motion future events and some will simply be a means to acquire new items for you and your companions.

In Baldur’s Gate 3, your journal will catalog all of your quests into convenient little categories. You will be able to locate “Find Your Belongings” under Chapter One, between the Prologue and Companions categories. Here's everything you need to know to complete the quest.

Getting Robbed

Baldur's Gate 3 Mattis

While on your journey to the Druids Grove, you will encounter a Tiefling child named Mattis in The Hollow. Tieflings are one of the many amazing race choices in the game. At the end of some dialog with the young Tiefling, they will show you their wares. Provided you failed the first Perception Check, it will become apparent that your character has been the victim of a swindle, and it will initiate the quest.

Your journal will now be updated, and you will be able to see the thief making a run for it. They will run from your party’s position and make their way down a ladder. They will then run towards a wall before despawning. If you make your way to the point they disappeared, it is revealed there is a small space where the child escaped through. However, it is too small for you to make your way through.

Finding The Lair

Baldur's Gate 3 Tiefling Child

In order to access where the thief ran to, you will need the help of Doni. There are two ways to approach this. The first is to convince Doni to show you the way, and the other is to tell him a secret password. First, make your way back to where you met Mattis. Travel opposite the ladder and follow along the wall with it to your character’s right. You will see another Tiefling child. This is Doni. Interacting with this child will not pose any fancy dialog navigation, as they will just grunt and act as if they are staring at something else.

If you tell this boy the password, they will grant you passage through a secret tunnel. There will be an option where you can turn around to see what he is looking at. However, doing so will trigger him to flee through the passage. Even if you pass both the Perception Check and an Investigation Check to discover the secret passage, you will not be able to progress through it.

Convincing Donny

Returning after a long rest will allow you to ask Doni where he went. This will roll an Insight Check. You will follow this up with a Persuasion Check in order to have him show you the way without needing the password.

Getting The Password

If you do not have a character that can make these rolls, you can head on over to the coordinates of X:325, Y:550. This will take you to the Secluded Cove. Here you will find a Tielfling child that is under the sway of a Harpy. Overcome this encounter and the boy will tell you to seek out Mol. He will also tell you a password. Telling this to Doni will make him show you the way.

The Tielfling Hideout

Baldur's Gate 3 Mol

Next, you will find yourself in the Tiefling Hideout where you will be able to find Mol. She can be found at the coordinates of X:85, Y:70. Just like Mattis, Mol will aim to swindle you by phrasing her words as if the children have done nothing wrong and are actually able to help you by returning what they have stolen. You can pay a fee of 40 gold or attempt to make either an Intimidation Check or a Persuasion Check.

If you are worried that your character will not be able to pass either of the Charisma Checks, you can pay the 40 gold and be done with it. You will also get told a special gesture you can use if any of the other children attempt to mess with you in the future, but you will need to pass an Intelligence check to repeat it back to Mol. Her attitude will quickly turn very aggressive as she tells you to take what is yours and leave. This will mark the Find Your Belongings quest as completed in your journal.

Alternate Outcomes

The game features many alternate results than the ones above. This guide just covers an overview of where all paths converge and help all readers find the answers they came seeking. Other options involve catching the thief in the act if you continue to look through Mattis’ wares. This is a great quest for covering a wide array of Ability checks to make them each shine.

If this happens, avoid making an Athletics Check, this will make the child fear and resent you. Rather choose, “Relax, I won’t get angry. You didn’t even manage to get anything from me”. Doing so will have them give you information to update your journal.
