Traveling companions are a big element of RPGs, be they a single character for carrying a large portion of your stuff, an NPC you need to escort to complete a quest, or a group of playable allies with which you can take full control and devise elaborate strategies with.

Baldur’s Gate 3 will introduce you to several companions before the first act. This helps for storytelling purposes and learning a lot of the mechanics. Once the prologue is over and done, you will need to officially collect companions to bring your party together. One such party member is Lze’zel the Githyanki Fighter.

Toad In A Cage

Baldur's Gate 3 Free Lze'zel Tieflings

In Act 1, you will find Lae’zel in a cage, captured by some Tieflings that call her a toad. Tieflings are seen as an evil race due to their devil-like appearance, and you will indeed see your fair share of them being truly wicked throughout your playthrough. You will be able to find this cage by heading to Roadside Cliffs at the following coordinates, X: 240, Y: 37. Choosing the correct dialog choices can resolve this without the need for bloodshed. If you are a Paladin, you can roll a Deception Check to convince the Tieflings to leave without any conflict. Attacking the Tieflings or destroying the cage to free Lae’zel will trigger a fight against the Tieflings. Below, you will find a table of all the possible increases and decreases to companion Approval.

As you can see, recruiting the Githyanki right here and now is not something Shadowheart is too fond of. However, you can have Lae’zel still join your party and bypass this negative approval point. Simply ask Lae’zel to wait at your camp instead, then during your next Long Rest, you can ask her to join your party without being in the previous scene and avoid any disapproval from Shadowheart.
