Baldur's Gate 3 is full of some difficult quests and missions that can really stump players if they aren't sure what to do. Thankfully, most of these situations can be resolved pretty quickly and painlessly.

Where Is The Moon Lantern?

During your time exploring the Underdark, you will find True Soul Nere. You will need to kill him in order to progress the storyline, and he will drop a Broken Moon Lantern. Once speaking to Halsin, you will learn that the Moon Lantern is something that is used in the Shadow-Cursed Lands to keep the Shadow Curse at bay. The only problem is that this one is broken. Unfortunately, the truth of the matter is that this Moon Lantern cannot be fixed. As you will later learn, Moon Lanterns are powered by Pixies inside of them. If one is broken, the Pixie is gone and cannot return. Therefore, any Broken Moon Lanterns you find are useless.

How To Find A Working Moon Lantern

The only place you can find a working Moon Lantern is in the Shadow-Cursed Lands themselves. While traveling the lands, make sure that everyone has a torch (Shadowheart doesn't need one), and begin traveling. You want to make sure that you have your torch out at all times until you find a way to stop the Shadow Curse. Eventually, you will make it to Last Light Inn. There, Isobel will grant you will a spell that will stop the Shadow Curse from getting to you. However, this will not work in the darkest parts of the Shadow-Cursed Lands, meaning you will need to find a Moon Lantern to continue. Thankfully, the Harpers will tell you where to go to find a working one.

What To Do With Moon Lanterns

Once you find a working Moon Lantern, a voice will beg you for help. This is where you learn about the Pixies that are trapped in each Moon Lantern. You will then be tasked with either letting the Pixie go or using the Moon Lantern yourself. Here's a guide if you're wondering about the outcome of this choice.
