About Lava Elemental

The character in Baldur's Gate 3 is looking at the Lava Elemental in the lava.

This Lava Elemental fight may seem hopeless due to the fact it can heal the damage you deal to it. This is due to the fact that out of all of the Elemental Surface Types in this game, it's of course in a Fire Elemental Surface Type. There are actually some tricks to use against it to prevent it from healing and defeating it. To use these tactics, you must understand the weaknesses and strengths of the Lava Elemental.

Strengths

The character in Baldur's Gate 3 is watching the Lava Elemental thriving in the lava.

The Lava Elemental is actually resistant to a few things. These include but are not limited to Piercing and Poison. It is also, obviously, Fire immune. In fact, so long as it is in the lava, it can regain health. If it starts a turn while standing in the lava, it will regain 10d6 hit points. This enemy can control lava in a way, disturbing it and making it bubble as well as explode so watch out for random spurts of lava flying around.

Weaknesses

The Baldur's Gate 3 character is hitting the Lava Elemental with Ray Of Frost.

There may be more weaknesses, but a sure fire one is the cold. Therefore, it will be best to utilize any cold elemental weapon you have. It apparently also has a weakness to being thrown from a high distance. Witch bolt also seems to deal a lot of damage to the Lava Elemental.

Defeating Lava Elemental

The Baldur's Gate 3 character is defeating the Lava Elemental.

Taking the knowledge that you just found out about the Lava Elemental, you will want to have a weapon that can deal some frost or cold damage. Either way, choose one of your best weapons to do a lot of damage. You will also need to try and keep it out of the lava so you can destroy it at a faster rate. So long as it is in the fire, it will heal over and over again. Once out on land, you will want to attack it with a weapon containing frost.

For example, if you use Ray of Frost with a 2~16 damage, 2d8 Cold then you can not only damage it a good bit but also reduce the movement speed to 3m. Bait it to come out of the lava and stand on some of the stone ruins. You can do so by standing at the top of the steps near the door and shooting at it. It will run towards it and come to your level. When it is up on your level, if you have Thunderwave, hit it just right then it will send it flying off the edge and most likely kill it.

It's just that simple though, if you are taking it on solo, it might be a little more difficult. Either way, keep the strategies you learned and utilize any frost weapons you may have. It may seem as if only a little health is being taken at a time but it adds up quick.

Rewards

The Baldur's Gate 3 character is receiving loot, Agate, from the Lava Elemental.

When you defeat the Lava Elemental, you will receive 120 XP as well as the following loot. You can get this loot by going up to the corpse and interacting with it.

  • Onyx
  • x2 Bloodstone
  • Agate
