To a large extent, anything you see in the game can be stolen, purchased, or permanently placed in your camp for your pleasure. One of those personalized elements is the use of companions, and one of the earliest and cutest companions players will run into is none other than the adorable and ferocious Owlbear cub. Below is our step-by-step guide on how to get the Owlbear cub to come live in your camp.

Meet The Owlbear Mom

The first step in getting the Owlbear cub to your camp is to find the cave it calls home. Find the cave by heading west of Emerald Grove Environs, and turn north on a little path before the bridge that leads to the Goblin Camp. Next, you'll find two siblings with another dying person on the ground. You'll end up helping them or fighting them, either way is fine. The siblings will inform you that the dying one was attacked by an Owlbear and that the cave is just up ahead. Head into the cave and confront the Owlbear mother towards the back.

You will have to pass a skill check to either intimidate or persuade the Owlbear mother to let you leave. This is an important part: once you've passed the skillcheck, turn around and leave! If you walk towards the Owlbear mother and cub (or try to fight her), she will attack, and you will lose your chance to get the cub as a companion.

Goblin Camp

After you've met the Owlbear mom and cub, the next step to getting the Owlbear cub companion is to head over to the Goblin Camp. You'll want to keep going west, over the bridge, and through the Blighted Village. You can choose to skillcheck or to fight the goblins in the village (the check will prove much easier). Keep heading west, through the village, until you come onto another bridge. This one leads into the Goblin Camp proper, which is filled with dozens of goblins all drinking, eating, and relaxing.

Head over the bridge and continue into the camp until you see Volo, a blue-clothed human bard that is keeping the goblins entertained at the center of a town-square-type place. Talk to Volo and this will interrupt his story, for better or worse. You can only activate the next part (Chasing Chickens) after talking to Volo so make sure to stop his storytelling before moving on.

Chicken Chasin'

A few feet to the left of where Volo is telling his story, players will find a Goblin named Krolla. She will be standing in front of the Owlbear cub and talking about "Chicken Chasin'." Approach Krolla and, after explaining that the Owlbear cub is not a chicken, she'll offer to let you play for the small price of 30 gold. Before the game starts, if you have the ability to speak to animals, make sure you don't encourage the Owlbear cub to attack their captors. Doing so will make the entire camp attack the Owlbear cub and kill it. Instead, win the game of Chicken Chasin' by leading the Owlbear cub into the correct area.

Follow behind it and pick up items that block the way so the Owlbear cub can move in the right direction. If you lose, it's ok because another 30 gold to Krolla means you can keep retrying. After you've won the game, go back and talk to Krolla. Getting your money back or not is unrelated to the Owlbear cub. When you get the chance, talk to Krolla a third time. Here, you'll have to pass a Persuasion or Intimidation roll in order to convince Krolla that the Owlbear should leave with you. Once you've convinced her to let it go, that's all you have to do, the Owlbear cub will appear in your camp a few days later and is now your companion.
