Step 1: Defeating Justiciar Enemies

The Baldur's Gate 3 character is fighting off enemies in the Silent Library.

If you're having trouble defeating the Justiciar enemies, you should take out the Librarian first if you rely on spells. The Librarian is preventing anyone from casting any spells so once you take them out, you can utilize your spell casting for the other enemies. Your utility spells may come in handy here. However, if you prefer to just go all in with ranged attacks then feel free to keep these enemies silenced.

Make your way through the library until you get to the Gauntlet. To avoid getting killed by the traps, it's suggested you pass all and any perception checks. The following are most of the traps you will encounter and how to deal with them:

  • The Buttons: These traps will electrocute you unless you left-click on them to get them disarmed.
  • Bookshelves: Acid is one of the more dangerous elemental types and a splash of it will occur if you don't disarm these traps.
  • Gas Pit Tentacles: If you put the wrong item in the slot, that will be one reason you will take damage from the tentacles.

The Riddle Of The Night Puzzle

The Baldur's Gate 3 character is choosing the book for the Riddle Of The Night Puzzle in the Silent Library.

There will be an area that's locked just past the traps to which you need to hit the button on the right of the puzzle room. To ease your mind, this trap will not have any electrifying consequence when you hit it, unlike the other buttons. To get the Spear of Night, you must solve the riddle, "What can silence the Nightsong?" You will see the book icon that you must search for.

The answer to this riddle will be on a bookshelf just out of the room you're currently in. If you walk straight out and go up the first set of stairs ahead of you, turn to your left. Check out the second bookcase nearby on your left but be sure to disarm it first. Once unarmed, investigate then take the book titled Teachings of Loss: The Nightsinger. Take this book back to the puzzle room and place it on the pedestal. If you put the wrong book on, then you may take a bit of damage by tentacles from the ground.

About The Nightsinger

The Shar is known as The Nightsinger, and it is said that she is supposed to be the only one who is able to silence the Nightsong. This is probably due to the fact that she is pretty much evil and thrives in the darkness. There is even a quest titled Find The Nightsong. As for Shar, she has many other names that people know her by as well such as Lady of Loss and Mistress Of The Night.

Rewards

The Baldur's Gate 3 character is about to receive the Spear Of Night and open the Gilded Chest in the Silent Library.

It may tell you that ingredients are missing, however behind the pedestal you'll notice the statue slowly descending and at first all you will see is darkness. Once everything has settled, it will reveal the room with your loot in it. You will notice the spear on the first pedestal. This spear can do 3-10 damage, 1d8 (1d6) +2 piercing, and claims, "If Shar allows it, use this spear to kill Nightsong." It will have +1 in Weapon Enchantment and proficiency with this weapon type unlocks spear, thrown, and versatile.

If you take a closer look at this room, you'll also notice a Gilded Chest behind the pedestal. This chest will contain the very rare Dark Justiciar Helmet to go with the spear. By wearing this helmet, you'll receive +1 bonus to Saving Throws against spells.
