Lots of quests in games can start off one way and turn into something completely different along the way. You may have to go out and find a herb that grows out in the forest by the river, only for it to unfold into a life-and-death situation and boss fight with a giant predatory monster.

This is a side quest featured in Baldur's Gate 3 that involves a goblin who is trapped in a cage with two Tieflings outside of it. This may give you Déjà vu from the Free Lae’zel quest, which had a very similar premise. This quest has much more depth than just talking or fighting to resolve the situation. Baldur's Gate has plenty of diverse races to choose from, and each comes with many cultural implications throughout the game.

Updated by Chad Thesen on August 19, 2023: This guide has been updated to feature new embedded links that can allow easier navigation for readers. These embedded links include a guide for how to romance gale if you are going the extra mile to keep him happy at your party. There is also a link for a similar quest about freeing Lae'zel who is also trapped in a cage with two Tieflings.

Saving Sazza From The Tieflings

Baldur's Gate 3 Free Sazza Quest Tiefling

This quest can be acquired while in the Druid Grove. Head on over to the coordinates of X: 190, Y: 590 to find the imprisoned Goblin. Two Tieflings are arguing over whether the Goblin should stay imprisoned or be killed right there in the cage. The goblin will heckle the Tiefling, saying the Tiefling doesn’t have what it takes to pull the trigger. You will have the option to intervene or stay out of the matter. Like many situations, you will be able to make various social Ability Checks. Doing so will stop the death of this Goblin without needing to resort to any violence. Below you will find a table of the Approval of companions for this dialog exchange. Be sure to pay attention to Approval, they will only take so much before they leave your party.

What Happens If You Free Sazza

Baldur's Gate 3 Free Sazza Quest Goblin Sazza

After saving Sazza, she will not really care why you saved her and says her tribe is on their way. She will also inform you of the existence of a Goblin priestess through her bragging of having no fear and how injuries can be patched up. This will also update your journal entry for the quest. Sazza will then try to strike up a deal with you, where if you help her out of the Druid Grove, she will show you where you can find the priestess. You can deny this to find the Priestess yourself, which you can do by heading to the Goblin Camp. This will also bypass the negative approval from Gale and Lae’zel for agreeing to free Sazza.

If you do agree, you will need to get Sazza safely out of the Druid Grove and get her to the Goblin Camp. You can use Thieves Tools to pick the lock, or just smash it with attacks until it breaks. Once Sazza is free, your journal will update with where to head next. Head opposite the door you came through to find Sazaa, and you will find a path you can jump to. Navigate down this trail to avoid any hostility.

At X: 205, Y: 606, you will be able to discover a stone door through a successful Perception Check. This door will take you to an Underground Passage. Head North along the trail. There is an ambush up ahead, so if you are low on health, be sure to top up your health and bolster your defenses. After the initial attack, some dialog will break out between Sazza and the attackers before a full-fledged fight ensues.

After they have been dealt with, continue to head North, there will be some ledges to climb, or you can just jump up. At the coordinates of X: -430, Y: -235, you will find another stone door. Interact with this door to leave the Underground Passage. Sazza will break off from you at this point, but she says she will meet you at her camp.

Where To Find Minthara

Baldur's Gate 3 Free Sazza Quest Minthara Drow female dark elf

You can use this opportunity to explore other options in the game, such as exploring the nearby forest, completing side quests you have already amassed, or seeking out new side quests to add to your journal. When you’re ready to continue with the quest, head on over to the Goblin Camp. You can find this camp at X: 65, Y: 400.

When you cross through the archway and head forward, you will be stopped by a lookout. Inform them that you are a True Soul by making a Wisdom Check. This will immediately defuse the situation, and it has such a trivial difficulty that you will not need to rely on your Cleric or Druid to make the check. Head down the trail to X: -70, Y: 360 to find Sazza.

After the dialog, follow Sazza’s marker on the map to the next location. She will lead you to some large oak doors. Interacting with them will let you pass through. Just keep following Sazza, all the way to X: 320, Y: 25. Then, speak with her when she stops. This will lead to some dialog options with a female drow named Minthara. Speaking with Minthara will complete this quest.
