In Baldur’s Gate 3, the Sword of Justice is in the possession of Anders, a self-proclaimed Paladin of Tyr. You can find Anders in the toll house near Karlach's location just south of the Risen Road Waypoint. He is located on the main floor of the toll house behind a desk.
Talk to Anders, and he will offer you the chance to earn the Sword of Justice by killing Karlach and presenting him with her head. You have the choice of either completing his mission or killing him to obtain the sword.

How To Get The Sword Of Justice From Anders
There are two options to obtain the Sword of Justice from Anders in the toll house.
- Fulfill Anders’ request to kill Karlach and bring him her head. Doing this will complete the associated quest, and Anders will reward you with the Sword of Justice for your troubles.
- Kill Anders and loot the Sword of Justice from his body. You’ll also have to kill his two comrades in arms if you decide to go this route.
Should You Kill Karlach Or Save Her?
For obvious reasons, opting for the first choice wasn’t in the cards for us. Not only is Karlach an excellent companion to have, but there are also tons of storylines associated with her character that you will be locked out of for the duration of the run if you choose to kill her.
And, when you recruit Karlach as your companion, she will reveal that Anders is not, in fact, a Paladin of Tyr but rather a charlatan pretending to be a Paladin. In reality, he and his associates are lackeys of the Archdemon Zariel, sent out to hunt down Karlach for betraying her former master and escaping her clutches.
Before you Kill Anders’ remember to find a few powerful early-game weapons in the secret room in the basement of the toll house.
How To Kill Anders
Anders and two helpers are all level 5. On higher difficulties, you might want to wait until you’re of a similar level to fight them. But that’s not a requirement for this fight. We handily defeated Anders and his crew with a Level 3 party in Balanced Mode.
To start the fight:
- Enter the toll house through the balcony using the ladder outside.
- Sneak into the top floor, just above where Anders stands behind a desk.
- Have your tank stand near the ladder so anyone who comes up must go through them first.
- Hurl your strongest spell or sneak attack from range to deal massive damage to Anders to start the fight.
- Use Hunter’s Mark or Hold Person on Anders if you have it to deal extra damage to him. He is the strongest member of his party, and ending his life first will net you an easy win.
Once you’ve defeated Anders, loot his body to find the Sword of Justice inside.
Keep Karlach in your party when you decide to put an end to Anders’ life. There will be a unique interaction with Karlach after the fight that you don’t want to miss. This goes a long way in progressing Karlach’s romance route.
