After completing Act 1 of Baldur's Gate 3, players will gain access to the Mountain Pass area. Here you can meet Lady Esther, who will act as a merchant and quest-giver. She will request that you enter a nearby monastery and retrieve a Githyanki egg to give to her.

After finding the entrance to the monastery and making your way through, you'll come across the Githyanki camp. Deeper inside is the hatchery with a single egg. After obtaining the egg through whatever methods the player thinks of, you'll now need to decide what to do with the egg.

Updated On August 21st, 2023 By Joshua Leeds: Baldur's Gate 3 gives players an incredible amount of freedom in how to handle different situations. This article has been updated to include additional information on how to get more options when talking to Lady Esther and the results of each decision.

Should You Give Esther The Githyanki Egg?

The Reward Screen For Giving Lady Esther The Egg

After returning to Lady Esther with the egg, you'll be presented with a few different options. The first and most straightforward option is to give her the egg. She'll reward the player with a large sum of gold before closing up her shop and leaving for Baldur's Gate, inviting you to stop by when you're in town. Your other option is to decline to give her the egg. Saying so will make her hostile, and she'll immediately attack you.

If players have an Owlbear egg on them, they can give it to Lady Esther instead after passing a check. An Owlbear egg can be sold for more than Lady Esther will reward you with, but this can end up keeping the consequences of handing the egg over from happening later in the game.

Consequences of Handing The Egg Over

The consequences of this decision happen later in Act 3 of the game, so proceed with caution. While this may seem like a harmless side quest players can complete, you can see the effects of your decision should you hand the egg over. Later in the game, after you've arrived at Baldur's Gate, you can visit the Society of Brilliance. If you handed the egg over, you'll find that the society raised the child harshly, causing it to lash out and kill its keepers, including Lady Esther.
