Updated On August 23rd, 2023 By Joshua Leeds: Dealing with Auntie Ethel and trying to save Mayrina is one of the first side quests players can experience in Baldur's Gate 3. It can be tricky for those trying to jump right into it at a low level, and this article has been updated to help those who do try.

Where To Find Bitter Divorce

Bitter Divorce Location In The Game

After defeating Auntie Ethel in the heart of the Overgrown Tunnel, there will be a door to the Hag's inner lair in the back left corner. Within are many items, such as potions, a powerful magical staff, and a few other trinkets for players to find. On the main pedestal in the middle will be a wooden wand named Bitter Divorce.

How To Use Bitter Divorce

Mayrina Holding Bitter Divorce Looking At Connor

After obtaining the item, leave the lair through the mushroom portal in the back to be teleported outside. Mayrina will be near the portal standing near a casket with her dead husband within. Bitter Divorce was what the Hag was going to use to bring Mayrina's husband back to life, and with the wand, you have the choice to bring him back yourself. The next bit of dialogue will give the player multiple options on how to close out this story.

The wand can bring Connor back from the dead but in a zombified state. Should players break the wand before reviving him, Mayrina will become angry but eventually accept the fate of being a single mother that lies ahead of her. If players decide to revive Connor, they'll be given an another choice to kill the zombie, keep the wand, or give it to Mayrina. Giving the wand to Mayrina will have her taking her zombified husband to Baldur's Gate in an attempt to make him normal again. Keeping the wand will have him follow you as a summoned ally until his death. Being a zombie, he will die fairly easily and is not a full party member, nor is keeping him worth the heartbreak of tearing him away from his now hopeful wife.
