Many Final Fantasy games have been some of the best JRPGs of all time, and they have experimented with difficulty settings in different ways over the course of the beloved franchise's lifespan. Final Fantasy 16, however, seems to bring with it a fascinating way of handling things that will make players choose “how” the game is made easier for them.
Not only are there multiple difficulties to choose from, but there are also special accessories that can modify how the game plays to make different elements easier to handle. This gives it a tweakable difficulty.
How Many Difficulty Settings Are There?
You will be able to select between two different difficulty options. The first is Story-focused and serves as the equivalent of an “easy mode” for the game. The second is Action-focused and will be the default option for a lot of players wanting to enjoy the game at the difficulty it is intended to be.
How Does Story-Focused Make The Game Easier?
Story-focused will make the game easier by adding special accessories with “Timely” at the start of their name. Each of these Timely accessories will modify a game mechanic to make it easier to accomplish for players that may find it troublesome. Below is a complete list of known Timely accessories.
Ring Of Timely Strikes
The Ring of Timely Strikes will, when equipped, allow you to pull off complex ability combinations by simply pressing the square button. This means you just need to button hit square to have Clive cycle between good combos without needing to learn all the intricacies of dealing damage.
Ring Of Timely Focus
The Ring of Timely Focus will slow down time whenever an opportunity to dodge arises. This can be great for players wanting to avoid taking damage but still wanting to be prompted to press the buttons needed.
Ring Of Timely Evasion
The Ring of Timely Evasion will make Clive automatically dodge out of the way and can be seen as an enhanced version of the Ring of Timely Focus.
Ring Of Timely Assistance
The Ring of Timely Assistance will issue pet commands automatically for the player. You will not need to use this ring if you already have Ring of Timely Strikes equipped.
Ring Of Timely Healing
The Ring of Timely Healing will allow you to automatically use a Healing potion when your Health has dropped to a certain point. All of your potions will be used before it uses any of your High Potions.
Players will be able to equip and unequip these at their leisure, so if a particularly difficult boss just keeps taking you down, you can equip the rings of Timely Strikes and Timely Evasion to dodge everything and just button mash your way through them to continue on with the story.
