Functioning as the game’s bounty system, Hunts allow you to seek out and take down notorious monsters plaguing the lands. In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know to unlock Hunts, and how to find and cull your targets.

How To Unlock Hunts

Although Hunts are one of the most exciting features in Final Fantasy 16, you, unfortunately, won’t be able to jump into them right away. Without spoiling any story bits, in order to access Hunts, you’ll first need to complete the first two major story arcs, ending with your first encounter with a Mother Crystal.

After completing that chapter, you will head back to your Hideout and do a couple of quick quests to familiarize yourself more with the refugees and facilities. Following this, you’ll complete a longer story quest at Martha’s Rest, and upon your return to the hideout, Hunts will become available.

How To Hunt Notorious Targets

Hunt Board and angel of death hunt

There will only be a handful of Hunts available at first, but when you initially visit the board, you’ll notice that one is already complete. This was because you took down Ahriman during the Martha’s Rest quest, signified by the target being crossed out on the board.

For all future targets, you won’t actually need to claim anything from the board. Instead, the posts will simply inform you of the target’s rank (eg. C, B, A), and their rough location in the world. It’ll be up to you to head out into the wilds, locate them, and take them out. As you progress through the main story, more targets will become available on the board, so be sure to visit it after you complete major story chapters.

Notorious Monsters Explained

Angel Of Death Hunt

So you may be asking yourself what is different about these monsters compared to the others you encounter while exploring. Well, they are much harder to take down, posing a far greater challenge than even the regular elite enemies you’ll discover.

In addition to a boss-like health bar, Notorious Monsters also have a range of devastating abilities and can even inflict status effects on you. For most of them, you’ll need to apply a bit more strategy and evasiveness in order to take them down and survive with all your parts intact.
