After playing through around 12 to 15 hours of the main story, you’ll finally be able to unlock one of the most exciting features Final Fantasy 16 has to offer - Hunts. These challenging monsters will test your mettle in battle and challenge you to put your best strategies forth in order to claim their bounty.

One of the first Hunts you will unlock is the Angel Of Death. We’ll walk you through where to find it and how to defeat it in battle.

Where To Find The Angel Of Death

Unlock the other Hunts available, The Angel Of Death doesn’t initially come with a photo which can make it a bit tricky to know what you are looking for. This monster looks fairly identical to the angel-like harpies you face on your way to the final Geruda battle earlier in the game.

To find the Angel Of Death, also known as Aruna, you’ll need to head to the Northreach waypoint on the eastern side of the world map. Once you arrive, head southwest into the Claireview field area, and you’ll find Aruna flying around.

How To Defeat The Angel Of Death

Aruna Battling C rank hunt

Although this is a notorious monster, Aruna is one of the easier ones to take down, fitting its C ranking. For most of its physical attacks, it will perform a sort of wind-up move right before they unleash the attack. A turn to the side means they’ll be swinging their long wing at you. When they pull straight up in the air, they will unleash a vertical kick toward the ground.

Their magic attacks are the ones you’ll want to pay the most attention to. One of their most powerful is a burst of wind, which is preceded by a long green path paved out in front of them. When you see this, be sure to get out of the path’s way. Following this attack, they will always wind up for a swing attack, and then a downward kick after.

To take them down, use your Geruda abilities to quickly drain their defense and stun them. Then unleash your Phoenix and Ifrit abilities while they are stunned to deal massive damage and drain their health. Aruna doesn’t really get too much harder as they are closer to death, so just be persistent in dodging their attacks, stunning them, and dealing as much damage as possible, and you’ll take them down in no time.

Angel Of Death Rewards

While the thrill of a good challenge can be enticing on its own, nothing quite beats the rewards that follow defeating a Notorious Mark. Aruna is one of the first Notorious Marks you have access to, so the rewards you can acquire aren't as rare as some of the ones dropped by other Notorious Marks. However, you do get access to a Clouded Eye crafting material by defeating Aruna, and this material is required if you want to craft and upgrade the Bastard Sword. Crafting this sword earlier in your playthrough can really give you an edge in combat as it is one of the best early-game swords.
