Diablo 4 has a huge number of currencies and crafting materials players will use to improve gear and open end-game content. The most essential resource in the game, however, is gold. This is required to do almost anything in the game, making it a vital resource to keep in supply.

While players receive a small amount of gold for most in-game activities, there are more efficient ways to farm this resource. Keep reading for everything you need to know about increasing your gold stockpile fast.

What Activities In Diablo 4 Give You The Most Gold?

The things that give you the biggest influx of gold in Diablo 4 include:

  • Activating a Gold Shrine
  • Killing a Treasure Goblin
  • Fighting Elite Enemies

However, the things on this list are random spawns, meaning the player won't be able to plan for them. For a more reliable method, look elsewhere.

The Best Way To Farm Gold In Diablo 4

There are a couple of ways to farm gold, but the ones with the highest return tend to involve selling gear and killing mobs in some specific locations. Selling gear or going to enemy-dense areas may not give you as much gold as a gold shrine, but you will be able to do them whenever you like.

Selling Gear

Selling gear, the number one choice for gold farming, is easy and straightforward to do. Players receive far more gear than they could ever hope to use in Diablo 4, making it a no-brainer. Additionally, almost every settlement has a vendor ready to buy gear for sizable amounts at the press of a button.

Vendor NPCs decide the price of a gear item based on the rarity (common, magic, rare, or legendary) and then the item level. You can increase your World Tier and play as a high-level character to increase the value of the gear dropped.

The time investment when farming gold by selling gear is heavily dependent on whether you already have the gear, or are collecting it (more on that below). However, considering the hoarding tendencies of the average player, you might already have a stash full of shiny junk ripe for selling.

The only downside when using this method is that you'll sacrifice the crafting materials you would have gotten from salvaging, which means that ideally, you'll want to alternate how you dispose of extra gear.

Overworld Regions With Many Fragile Mobs

If you want another way to farm gold, then going to a location with many fragile mobs is a good way to go. Not only do monsters drop gold on death, but you can also do any events, shrines, or goblins that spawn while you're there. This method gets more lucrative on higher world tiers, so it scales well into the endgame. Possible locations could include:

  • The Shrouded Moors
  • The Desolate Highlands
  • The Westering Lowlands

Any region with an enemy that summons or turns into many more enemies is a fantastic choice for this method, such as places where Fallen Shamans and Spider Hosts reside. You can also use events that spawn continuous enemies until completed, such as Legion Events or Cull The Wicked.

The Best Ways To Get Equipment Drops

If you want to sell gear for gold but don't have any extra lying around, then you'll want to prioritize running dungeons. Strongholds and Side Dungeons are the best choices since they are numerous and can be run repeatedly (or one after another).

The most efficient dungeons to farm are those with few dead ends and many enemies. An example might be Dead Man's Dredge in The Gale Valley, which players during the beta clocked as a great dungeon to farm. Anica's Claim in the Malnok region is another good candidate.

In early access versions of Diablo 4, a dungeon could be reset by leaving it and re-entering. However, this no longer works in the full release of the game. Instead, the dungeon will reset when the player has killed the boss at the end.

The Honorable Mention: Trading

While trading gear with other players can be lucrative, it is not the best method. This is because it requires more luck and obsessive in-game knowledge to be successful. NPCs buy gear based on item level for a reliable price, while other players buy gear based on rolled stats at ever-changing prices.

If you'd like to dip your toes into the world of gear trading, prioritize rare gear with aspects that have rolled as close to the maximum as possible. Legendary gear cannot be traded.
