Diablo 4 is a huge game with lots to do and get distracted by. While most of the things you do will earn you experience, oftentimes you'll want to quickly reach the next level for another precious skill point. After all, hitting the max level of 100 can seem like a daunting task.

Updated on June 6th, 2023 by Joshua Leeds: Diablo 4's max level is 100, and reaching it is quite the grind. While focusing on the main campaign will help you level up early on, you'll need to engage with a lot of the additional content if you want your character to reach their full potential.

How To Earn Experience

Diablo 4 gameplay

The most basic way of earning experience is by killing demons found in the world. With a setting full of foes, simply running around and killing everything you find will consistently earn you experience. You will also find stronger enemies with much higher stats and special abilities that make them more challenging. These enemies give you more experience than their weaker counterparts.

Players will also be rewarded with large sums of experience for finishing quests. Side quests will offer a decent amount of bonus experience as a reward. Completing main quests will offer higher amounts of experience. Completing quests will reward you with experience and sometimes loot upon completion. Quests also bring you face-to-face with many demons to kill for more experience along the way.

Fighting Together

Diablo 4 Party Member

Diablo 4 has made many steps to being a multiplayer experience where you can play with friends or random people you come across in Sanctuary. For those engaging in the game's multiplayer aspects, you'll also get XP faster. Those playing in a party of two or more people will receive a bonus of 10% XP across the board. For those playing solo but still running into players in the world, you'll gain an additional 5% XP simply by fighting the same enemies. This is especially helpful in World Events, where you're more likely to come across other players and will be fighting many powerful enemies.

World Tiers And Challenging Areas

Veteran World Tier Menu

When you first start the game, players will be given access to the first two World Tiers. World Tier 1 is the easiest and offers no bonuses for playing on it. Those who play on Veteran or any of the higher tiers will gain increased XP with each tier. To maximize your XP gain, play on the highest World Tier you can, and quickly unlock the later two after completing the main story. There are also areas of the game that scale enemies to be stronger than the player, such as Strongholds and Helltide events. These areas are great places to farm for XP as the higher-leveled enemies naturally drop more XP than what you'll usually find.

Using Elixirs

Player Crafting Elixirs

Elixirs are unique potions that give more benefits than your usual healing potions. Elixirs often have specific buffs to help you in fights but also give a small boost in XP for a short period of time. While this bonus is only small, it's worthwhile to stack onto other XP boosts to maximize play sessions and level up quickly. The main use of Elixirs may not be the additional XP, but it is worth using them for grinding.
