While walking around Sanctuary in Diablo 4, chances are you have come across Open World Event. These are Events that happen all over Sanctuary and are marked by an orange circle on the map. While they aren't as hard as World Bosses or the Legion Gathering Events, they can still be quite challenging at times.

From these Events, players can obtain Experience, Gold, Equipment, Gems, Murmuring Obol, and Crafting Materials. These items can be essential to players and are easy to obtain. All you need to do is finish the Event. Finishing the Event with Mastery gives you even more items! This list breaks down the best open world events in the game.

10 Wayward Soul

Diablo 4 Wayward Soul

Wayward Soul is one of the most common Open World Events that players can find on their map. It is probably the first Event that you came across during your adventures in Sanctuary. To start this Event, you'll need to kill all the enemies surrounding the Wayward Soul, and then go speak to it afterward. They will tell you that they are separated from their loved one and need your help reaching them. Your job is to escort them wherever they need to go.

In order to complete the Event, you must stay within the Wayward Soul's circle and kill the enemies that are trying to attack it. If you leave the circle, it will stop moving. This can be so fun due to the fact that you have to stay in the circle to make them move. This gives you the opportunity to try your hand at attacking enemies differently. If you want to reach the Mastery level with this Event, you will need to help it reach the loved one before time runs out. Just stick close to it and attack from inside the circle, and you should make it. Once the Wayward Soul reaches its destination, an Elite enemy will appear. Kill it to finish the Event.

9 Altars

Diablo 4 Altar of Bishibosh

You can find different types of Alters around Sanctuary. Some of these Altars will be named (like the Alter of Bishibosh), and others will just say to destroy the Altar. The purpose of this Event is to destroy whatever Altar is in the Event's area. However, you will be attack by relentless swarms of enemies as you try to destroy the Altar. You'll want to focus a lot of energy onto the Altar; however, you also want to be careful that you don't get overrun by the enemies as they attack. This event can be fun since it gives you the opportunity to work on the best course of action for your specific build. You'll learn if you are more AOE or single-target oriented.

If you want to reach the Mastery level of this Event, you need to destroy the Altar and survive the enemy invasion within a certain amount of time. You will be able to see this time on the right of your screen under the Event's name. If you do not reach this specific amount of time, you will still beat the Event if you destroy the Altar and survive, but you will not be given the Mastery ranking of this event. Once again, you want to focus on the Altar, but do not let the enemies overrun you. It is more important to survive.

8 Defiled Ground

Diablo 4 Defiled Ground

This is a fun Open World Event. In this Event, you will find a Construct being channeled by certain enemies in a ritual. While you may not be sure what is going on, one thing is clear; rituals are never good. You'll need to stop the ritual before it is completed. In order to do any damage to the Construct, you will need to kill those who are channeling it. However, they will respawn as you try to finish the Event. Be sure you are always taking them out first.

The Mastery level for this Event can be reach relatively easily. In order to complete the Event, all you need to do is survive the enemies and their attacks for a certain amount of time. This amount of time will show under the Event's name on the right-hand side of your screen. Mastery comes when you do this and destroy the Construct within that amount of time. This is a great Event since you get to work on your timing. You will need to kill enemies that are all over the place.

7 Waves Of Darkness

Diablo 4 Waves of Darkness

Waves of Darkness is about as common as Wayward Soul, especially after you get into the game. In order to start this Event, you need to enter into the Event's area and then stand on the circle that can be found within the area. You will need to kill a couple enemies in this area before the real event starts. Once those are taken care of, you'll have waves of enemies attacking you from all sides. This gives you the opportunity to work on your survivability. You can see where your weaknesses are during the waves.

In order to reach Mastery with this, you will want to keep an eye on the timer. This is located on the right-hand side of the screen. You will have to defeat 5 waves of monsters in order to finish this specific Event. If you want to reach the Mastery level, you must do so within the limited amount of time you are given. Be careful not to leave the Event's area. If you do this, you may run into enemies that aren't part of this Event.

6 Hold Your Ground

Diablo 4 Hold Your Ground

Hold Your Ground is another pretty common Open World Event and is almost identical to the Waves of Darkness Event. The only difference is that you are not alone in this Event. In it, you will find a wanderer who is hurt and stranded in a certain location. They will need your help to heal and leave the area. The only problem is that there are hordes of enemies attacking the two of you as soon as you finish speaking to the wanderer. The addition of the wanderer is what makes this Event so great. You have a true reason to be participating—keeping someone alive.

In order to reach the Mastery level, you will need to keep the wanderer alive. No matter what, the event will be completed whenever you finish the fifth and final wave. However, if you do so within a certain amount of time, the wanderer will have time to get themselves together and survive the battle. If you don't finish in that amount of time, they will die. This is the same idea as the Waves of Darkness Event. The only difference is you are trying to save someone else rather than yourself.

5 Rites Of Ascension

Diablo 4 Rites of Ascension

This Open World Event is similar to the Defiled Ground Event. This time, there are enemies channeling someone known as "The Unascended" in the center of the ritual area. Your job is to stop this ritual so that it cannot finish. You will have three phases of this Event. First, you'll need to kill those channeling The Unascended (they will respawn throughout the fight). Then, you will want to fight that enemy. Once it is defeated, you'll have a demon spawn that needs to be killed. These different phases are what makes this Event fun. You get to do a multitude of things during it rather than the same thing the whole time.

Mastery of this Event isn't too terribly hard. If you want to finish the Event, all you need to do is kill those channeling The Unascended, Kill The Unascended, and then kill the demon that spawns after The Unascended is dead. If you want to reach Mastery, you will need to kill those channeling The Unascended and The Unascended before they are able to complete the ritual. Even if you do this, the demon will still spawn and need to be killed before finishing the Event.

4 Cull The Wicked

Diablo 4 Cull The Wicked

Cull The Wicked is a fun Open World Event. This event requires you to just kill everything in your path, something the Diablo series is known for at this point. That is the best part of this Event. You get to experience what it is like to just spend your time attacking enemies that are spread throughout an area. In other Events, the enemies come to you. In this one, you come to them. You will run into this Event whenever you reach certain areas that are overpopulated with enemies. Once you step into the Event area, it will be your job to eliminate these enemies. Being able to let loose and kill everything at your own pace can be fun for an Event like this.

If you're aiming for Mastery of this Event, you'll need to do things a little differently. You'll be tasked with killing everything in the area. This can take as long as you need, meaning you do not need to feel rushed or stressed about finding everything quickly. However, as soon as the last enemy is killed, you will have to kill an Elite enemy that spawns within the area. You are usually given a minute to do so in order to reach Mastery.

3 Ancient Syphon

Diablo 4 Ancient Syphon

The Ancient Syphon Open World Event is one of the more interesting Events available to players. In order to begin, you will first need to enter the Event's area. Inside, you will find an Ancient Syphon that you can interact with. This will cause the Event to start. If you want to make it easier for yourself, you can kill all enemies in the area before beginning this event. This will leave less enemies for you to kill later.

The way you reach Mastery on this Event is different than you do with the other Events. For this Event, in order to complete it, all you need to do is survive the enemies attacking you. You will have a certain amount of time to survive. After that, the Event is over. However, if you want to reach Mastery, you'll need to kill these enemies by the Ancient Syphons. If you kill enough by all three Ancient Syphons, you'll reach Mastery. This aspect is what makes this Event stand out above the rest. You get to sacrifice the enemies rather than them trying to sacrifice you.

2 Jar Of Souls

Diablo 4 Jar of Souls

Jar of Souls is another common Open World Event. In it, you will notice a singular jar sitting in the center of the Event's area. This is what you want to go to. Once you reach it, kill a few enemies around the jar. This will cause the jar to awaken and begin the Event. Your job is to collect the souls of the enemies you kill for the jar. The fun in this event is that you get to run around and collect souls while still maintaining a steady stream of killing.

To reach Mastery with this Event, you'll have to collect 30 souls within a certain amount of time. If you do not reach this, you can still finish the Event by killing the remaining enemies once the timer drains. The souls are green flames that can be found around the area. They are found right after you kill an enemy.

1 Ancient Obelisk

Diablo 4 Ancient Obelisk

The best Open World Event is the Ancient Obelisk. It is a fun Event that is similar to others, but different enough to not feel repetitive. This Event requires you to stand on four different pressure plates located around the Ancient Obelisk. These pressure plates will cause the Ancient Obelisk to fill with blood, completing a ritual. You'll be tasked with attempting to complete this while being attacked by hordes of monsters.

If you want a Mastery level with this Event, you will need to fill up the Obelisk by standing on all four pressure plates until their area fills up with blood. You'll have to do this within a certain amount of time. If you're unable to complete this, you will still finish the Event by surviving the enemies. Once all four pressure plates are finished, an Elite enemy will appear in front of the Ancient Obelisk. Kill it to complete this Event.
