Before you do that, you’ll need to get a lot stronger and learn how to maximize your control of the battlefield. In Diablo 4, Crowd Control is one of the most important kinds of effects to take advantage of and can make the difference between life and death when facing dozens of enemies at once. Here’s what it is, and every version of it you can utilize in the game.

What Is Crowd Control?

Druid Skill rune shout

In essence, Crowd Control (CC) covers a large group of status effects and debuffs that you can inflict upon your enemies, or have inflicted upon you. These effects will typically only last for a few seconds, but will temporarily slow or immobilize enemies, giving you a moment of reprieve to get away or to focus on taking out some of the more lethal enemies in front of you.

Like most of the status effects you can utilize in the game, Crowd Control effects typically won’t work on the more elite enemies, especially bosses. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try, but rather, the likelihood of it affecting them is lower the more elite an enemy is. Because of this, you’ll typically want to prioritize using them on the weaker enemies to maximize their effectiveness.

To really take advantage of these effects, make sure to thoroughly review all skills in the skill tree. Sometimes you might need to try a skill you weren't planning on using but by doing so you can create great skill pairings that maximize your CC effects.
