Diablo games are designed to continually challenge you, even as you gain access to stronger gear and abilities. The enemy level you will face is directly tied to your level, which means you won’t have to look too hard to find a challenging situation.
Once you start encountering enemies that can inflict multiple types of elemental or status effects on you, you are bound to find yourself having to quickly use your potions to stay alive. But you won’t get very far in the world if you haven’t upgraded their potency or capacity. We’ll show you how to do both below.
How To Upgrade Your Healing Potions
Just like the enemy level scales with your own, so does the availability for you to upgrade your potions. Doing so will not only make them heal more of your health, which is increasingly important as you increase your maximum life stat but will also provide an additional potion for each upgrade.
To begin upgrading your potions, you’ll need to visit the Alchemist in any large town. Once you have reached level 10, you’ll be able to do your first upgrade, so be sure to pay them a visit no long after you reach that level. Upon doing so, you’ll be able to see every level milestone you will need to cross in order to unlock future potion upgrades. You can also use the Alchemist to create single-use potions that buff a variety of stats. These unique potions can be helpful when you find yourself facing off against a tough boss or just want to obliterate your enemies more effectively as you explore the world and dungeons.
How To Increase Potion Capacity
In addition to the capacity increase you’ll gain each time you upgrade your potions, you can also increase the capacity by gaining renown in each of the regions across the map. After you have achieved a particular renown level, you will gain access to the additional potion capacity as well as some other perks like increased Murmuring Obols capacity, gold, and skill points.
To view your renown level and progress for a particular region, pull up your map and then click the corresponding button to View Rewards. Here, you can cycle between the regions you have discovered, monitor progress toward rewards, and even gain insight into the things you can do to gain renown. You will naturally acquire it as you find new areas in each region or complete dungeons, but be sure to check your renown rewards often, so you don’t miss out on these valuable upgrades.
