The latest installment in the Diablo franchise, Diablo 4, is already making massive waves in the gaming community. Players are eating up its story and smashing through dungeons at breakneck speeds. Of course, there are some minor hiccups in the UI. It is not always apparent how to unlock something, for one. As an example, several of the game's many vendors require specific conditions to unlock.

One of these, the Jeweler, is locked behind a level cap and a quest. These quests, however, do not automatically track or otherwise notify the player when they become available. Luckily, this guide will show you everything you need to know about unlocking and making use of the Jeweler.

Where To Find The JewelerDiablo 4 Check The Map

A Jeweler will be available in multiple towns, although not every Waypoint will have one. To see if a place has a certain vendor, you can select it on your map, and peruse the icons under Available Services. The Jeweler's icon is, unsurprisingly, a gem cut into the stereotypical diamond shape. The first Jeweler in the game can be found in Kyovashad inside a small two-story building. How To Unlock The Jeweler

To unlock the Jeweler, you must first reach level 20 and have completed the Prologue. The end of the prologue occurs when you hand Lorath his amulet. Once you've met these prerequisites, a priority quest will appear in your Journal.

Tracking The Quest

To track the quest, open the journal and navigate to the third tab (just after the yellow main story tab). Then, select the quest to unlock the Jeweler.

Completing The Quest

To complete this quest, you'll need to speak with the Jeweler in Kyovashad (Kratia). She will give you a speech about her abilities and then suggest you craft a Crude Ruby. As part of this quest, you will receive the components to craft a gem of the correct type. However, you will need to supply the gold yourself. Crafting the gem completes the quest, unlocking Jewelers all over Sanctuary.

Services Of The Jeweler

6 of the gems available in Diablo 4

Once you've unlocked the Jeweler, several services will become available. These include:

  • Crafting gems
  • Unsocketing gems
  • Adding Sockets to gear
  • Upgrading rings and amulets

Crafting Gems

The Jeweler will allow you to craft gems using gold and a gem resource of the matching type. In Diablo 3, three of an inferior gem type were used to craft higher-level gems, a mechanic that Blizzard has said is returning to Diablo 4. In Diablo 4, the following qualities of gems will be available:

  • Crude
  • Chipped
  • Standard
  • Flawless
  • Royal

Higher-level gems will grant larger buffs when socketed into gear, so be sure to keep upgrading them when you can.

How to Unsocket Gems

Unsocketing gems can be done at the Jeweler by navigating to the relevant tab (it has a pair of pliers holding a gemstone on it) and dragging the gear with the socketed gem into the box. Then, you'll spend a small amount of gold to remove the gem.

If you sell or salvage a piece of gear with a gem still inside, the gem will be lost forever. This is a big deal later on when gems are rare. They're also one of the best ways to improve late-game gear.

How To Add Sockets

Adding sockets to gear that doesn't have them is a great way to improve your gear. To add a socket, you'll need a Scattered Prism, which is dropped by World Bosses and Treasure Goblins.

Each gear type has an associated maximum number of sockets.

  • Helm - 1 Socket
  • Chest - 2 Sockets
  • Pants - 2 Sockets
  • Amulet - 1 Socket
  • Ring - 1 Socket
  • 1-Handed Weapon - 1 Socket
  • 2-Handed Weapon - 2 Socket
  • Bow - 2 Socket
  • Focus - 1 Socket

Once a socket has been added to a piece of gear, the materials used cannot be recovered.

Upgrading Rings and Amulets

Similar to the upgrading function of the Blacksmith, the Jeweler can upgrade jewelry such as rings and amulets. To do so, you'll need the following resources:

  • Gold
  • Veiled Crystals
  • Silver Ore
  • Iron Chunks
  • Abstruse Sigils

These resources can be collected from Ore deposits in the Overworld, or through salvaging unneeded gear.
