Gear in Diablo 4 is split into three main categories: weapons, armor, and jewelry. While all pieces of gear perform more or less the same function, there are some slight differences between them. Most notably, certain affixes only appear on certain pieces of gear. Meanwhile, every Aspect can only be imprinted on specific item types.

Every character in Diablo 4 gets access to three jewelry slots regardless of their class. Two of these slots are reserved for rings while the third one holds amulets. Much like weapons and armor, rings and amulets can be upgraded and socketed with various Gems in order to enhance their attributes.

How To Upgrade Jewelry

Diablo 4 Jewelry upgrade

All types of weapons and armor can be upgraded at a Blacksmith, but to upgrade jewelry you’ll need to visit a Jeweler. This may sound intuitive if you’ve been playing Diablo 4 for a while, but it can leave some newcomers scratching their heads because the Blacksmith unlocks at level 10 while the Jeweler doesn’t unlock until level 20. You can still acquire rings and amulets even at lower levels, but you won’t be able to upgrade them until you unlock Kratia, the Jeweler in Kyovashad.

Once you unlock Kratia, you’ll gain access to multiple services. In addition to upgrading jewelry, Kratia can also help you socket and unsocket items, as well as craft various Gems. The upgrading service works similarly to the one offered by the Blacksmith. You simply select the required item, pay the required gold and resources, and you’re good to go.

Rings and amulets can be upgraded multiple times, with the number of available upgrades depending on the item’s level compared to your character’s level. For instance, if your character is level 60 you can upgrade a ring of equal level up to five times. Meanwhile, a level 50 ring will be maxed out after only a couple of upgrades. Item rarity is taken into account as well, so expect a Legendary ring to generally have more upgrade levels than a Magical or Rare one.

Required Crafting Materials

Jewelry upgrade materials Diablo 4

Many of the same materials used to upgrade weapons and armor are also needed to upgrade jewelry. This includes things like Iron Chunks, Silver Ore, and Veiled Crystals. You can obtain all these materials by either salvaging unneeded rings and amulets or by completing quests that award resource caches. You can often also find materials randomly while exploring the world. It’s important to note that even though you’ll need to visit the Jeweler to upgrade rings and amulets, jewelry can only be salvaged at a Blacksmith.

Upgrading any Legendary item to max level requires special crafting materials and jewelry is no exception. In this case, you’re going to need something called Abstruse Sigils. These rare crafting materials have a chance to drop whenever you salvage a Legendary piece of jewelry and can sometimes also drop from mobs and chests.

Now, if you’re looking to fully upgrade a Sacred or Ancestral piece of jewelry, you’ll need several Abstruse Sigils along with a couple of Forgotten Souls. Forgotten Souls are even rarer than Abstruse Sigils and only drop during Helltides, special events that spawn somewhere in Sanctuary every 75 minutes or so.
