As you are exploring, it likely won’t be long before you stumble across a Silent Chest. Unlike most treasure chests you find in the game, this one can’t just simply be opened. You’ll need to find the right key if you want to see what’s inside. Here’s how to get your hands on the keys, so you can claim the bounty these Silent Chests hold.
How To Get Whispering Keys
The only way to open a Silent Chest is by using a Whispering Key. These keys cannot be found by killing enemies or opening other treasure chests. Instead, they can only be purchased using a new type of currency, Murmuring Obols.
Once you have scored at least 20 Murmuring Obols, you’ll need to visit the Purveyor of Curiosities shop to buy the key. This shop is found in most of the larger towns and is marked on the map by a coin bag icon. Once in the shop menu, scroll all the way down to the bottom to find the key. If you happen to have enough to buy more than one key and aren’t planning on gambling your Obols for some gear, then it is a good idea to pick up a few Whispering Keys since you will encounter many Silent Chests on your journey.
Where To Find Silent Chests
Unlike most of the large treasure chests you’ll encounter by completing events or quests, Silent Chests can simply be stumbled upon as you are exploring the world. Usually, they won’t be right next to a main road, so it is a good idea to explore all the nooks and crannies on the map if you want to find as many of the chests as possible.
Once you open them, you will get a random drop that usually consists of gold, gems, and some gear. Similar to the gatcha system found at the Purveyor of Curiosities shop, you are sort of gambling your hard-earned Orbols to open each chest. Most often, the Silent Chests won’t contain anything of significant value, minus the collection of gems you will acquire. But every once in a while, you will get a great rare or even legendary drop.
