Of the many side quests in Diablo 4, there are a few which provide vague hints and contain puzzles. The Exhuming Faith side quest in the Dry Steppe region is one such quest, which can be frustrating for completionists players.
In order to finish this side quest, you'll need to locate a number of small markers and pieces of paper before defeating a mini-boss. For the locations of these notes and markers as well as the rewards for finishing the quest.
Starting The Quest
The Exhuming Faith side quest can be found in the rear of the Orbei Monastery of the Dry Steppe region. To begin the quest, read the Blood-Splattered Scroll on the ground.
After closing the note, a mid-size area along the western coast will be highlighted. All the quests' remaining objectives will be in this area. The closest Waypoint to this zone is The Hidden Overlook.
Completing The Quest
There are several steps to completing this quest. Players will need to:
- Use the note to locate the first Trail Marker.
- Read the note on the Trail Marker.
- Use the new note to find the second Trail Marker.
- Read the note on the second Trail Marker for a clue to find the final note.
- Locate the final note, and open it.
- Fight the mini boss that spawns, Izzoth the Deceiver. He hits hard but can be CC'd to make taking him down easier.
When the mini boss has been successfully defeated, the quest will end and the rewards will be granted automatically.
While the quest tracking will initially only track an area, the Trail Markers and notes will be tracked specifically once you walk up to them.
Where To Find The First Trail Marker
Once you've reached the highlighted area, you'll need to locate two trail markers. These markers are wooden and similar in color to the landscape, making them hard to spot. You'll need to read the notes carefully for clues to a nearby landmark. The note that started the quest has your first clue:
In my dreams, a figure bathed in Light, named Izzoth, came and spoke words of great power. I have written them down and placed the scroll at Khotun’s Reach where only the faithful will find it. Seek the first trail marker at the graveyard of ships.
The first marker is located on a cliff overlooking the water on the western edge of the map. In the water, you will see the wreck of a ship.
Where To Find The Second Trail Marker
Clicking on the first marker will give you a clue to the next marker.
Towards the light where the remains of our folly wander the twisted paths, seek a high place.
You'll find the second marker on a central overlook with several undead enemies surrounding it as well as some inert skeletons as set dressing.
Where To Find The Final Note
When you've found the second marker, interacting with it will reveal one final clue.
Up the coast to where we watched our brave crusaders set forth to the Western lands.
To find the final note, head to the northernmost point in the region and look out over the cliff to the sea. The note will be a small scroll glowing faintly red. Once you interact with this scroll, an Elite enemy will spawn.

This quest has a hefty reward attached to it:
- +30 Dry Steppes Renown
- Level-synced gold and experience
- A Murmuring Cache containing 50 Murmuring Obols
