Diablo 4's many bosses challenge players as the game progresses. During Act 3, players fight Elias to stop the Lesser Evil Andariel from being summoned and meet the Witch Doctor Taissa in the process. However, during the course of Act 4, Elias is able to successfully complete this ritual, summoning Andariel, the Maiden of Anguish outside a desert Chapel.

Andariel, the Maiden of Anguish, is called the queen of Hell for a reason. Her power causes a great storm to lock the player in with her, and her many arms make for a fast attack pattern to keep you on your toes. Keep reading for tips on beating Andariel such as how to counter each of her attacks, the best gear and elixirs to use when fighting her, and rewards for beating her.

Taking On The Boss

Diablo 4's Andariel when she first spawns

Andariel's boss fight is a fast attacking, crowd control dishing, health-draining monster of a fight. Players should expect to spend a lot of time dodging environmental hazards and static attacks.

Phases Of The Fight

This fight is slightly unusual, as Andariel has four phases, not three. During the initial phase, Andariel will be shackled to a cross. During Subsequent phases, she will be unshackled to reveal her four-taloned arms.

Stagger Bar

Andariel has a stagger bar like most bosses in Diablo 4, however, not all of her damage stops when she is staggered. Anything that she has placed on the ground before being staggered will persist for the normal amount of time. As a result, staggering her is less important than it is usually in boss fights.

Environmental Effects

The arena you fight Andariel in is the result of a powerful sandstorm. As a result, you can technically exit the arena. However, standing in the sand storm will slowly reduce your health, and is not recommended.

If Andariel is standing near the edge of the arena when she enters the next phase, you might lose health potions to the storm. When possible, drag her to the middle before triggering the next phase.

Attacks

The Maiden of Anguish's attacks changes drastically over the course of the fight, so note which phases each attack can be performed in.

Ability

Phase

Notes

Counter

Lines of Anguish

All

These appear as red lines on the ground and slowly drain health. Andariel will create more lines the later you are in the fight (2 - 6).

Move out of the lines, and attack from range when possible

Rune Chains

All

These look like small metal poles and have a circle around them on the ground. If you walk into the circle you will be chained, and unable to leave the pole's range

Periodically clear out some of these, to continue to have room to move. If chained, kill the offending rune to free yourself.

Missiles

All

Andariel will sometimes teleport - firing red, honing missiles when she does so.

Dodge the missiles until Andariel reappears on your mini-map, then go to her location to continue the fight

Slash

2 - 4

Andariel will use the extra limbs on her back to slash at the player

You will have trouble dodging this, but since they only deal moderate damage you should be able to sustain through it.

Push

2-4

Occasionally, instead of slashing at you, Andariel will push your character into danger (usually the storm)

When Andariel's pincers wind up to the side rather than upwards, evade sideways. If you get hit into the storm, run back toward the center

Preparing For The Fight

Player Crafting Elixirs

For this fight, the player has the opportunity to teleport back to town before following Taissa and Neyrelle into the storm. Taking this opportunity to fix up your gear, upgrade your armor, and craft an elixir are all great uses of your time.

The best elixir to use is one of Acrobatics, as it will give you additional mobility. If you have a pair of boots that increase your charges of evade, these will also help quite a bit.

Rewards For Beating Andariel
