Diablo 4 also allows players to skip the campaign of subsequent characters after completing it the first time. This allows you to quickly make and level up new characters. While players will likely want to swap between characters and try all of the classes, they'll still want to play with friends. That's where level scaling comes in.

Is There Level Scaling In Diablo 4?

Players Battle Demons In A Field

Yes! Diablo 4 has level scaling in both single and multiplayer settings. In single-player, all the monsters of the world will scale to your current level, allowing you to travel around and properly fight the monsters in any area. While exploring the open world there will be occasional monsters that scale slightly below your level, and often won't be noticeable in combat. After completing the main campaign, later characters may explore the world without any boundaries, as all the monsters you face will scale to your level.

In multiplayer situations, all the monsters in the world will scale equally between all party members, no matter the gap in level. It's easier to think of each monster not having a specific level. Instead, they're dealing and taking damage scaled properly to whichever player is attacking them. Both a level 10 and level 30 player can fight the same boss in the same party. They'll both find it to be equally challenging while also earning gear and items that scale to their character's level. Higher-level characters will have more abilities and tricks to use that will make them seem stronger, but even the flashiest of gear will be appropriately scaled so as not to dominate a lower-level friend's world.

What Are World Tiers?

All Fourt World Tiers In Diablo 4

World Tiers are one-way players can scale the game's difficulty to their liking. In single-player or in a party, the World Tier will determine the overall strength of the monsters you'll be facing and the rewards they will drop upon being defeated. The World Tier is scaled equally for any party member, making higher world tiers equally challenging no matter the gap in party level. New World Tiers are unlocked by reaching and completing certain dungeons. World Tiers also have recommended levels to achieve for the higher challenge provided with each tier. Should players want to challenge these tiers with lower-level characters, it is possible. The rewards will be great, but it'll be a fight through hell.

Capstone Dungeons, Helltides, and Strongholds

While much of the game offers the usual level scaling, certain areas or events will be more challenging and scale to be sure of this. When participating in either Helltide events or Strongholds, the enemies within will scale to slightly higher than your current level, usually about two levels. Capstone Dungeons are also unique in that they have set levels. The Cathedral Of Light Capstone dungeon, unlocked right after beating the main campaign, has all enemies within at level 50. These Capstone dungeons may be nearly impossible for those under-leveled, but they are one of the few places where higher-level players can truly feel powerful while clearing. World Bosses do have minimum levels, starting at level 50, but will scale higher as your level increases.
